For 90 years, the Far Eastern State Technical Fisheries University (FESTFU) has been training specialists for commercial, technical and food industries, for the fishing and transport fleet, which makes it unique in the Russian Far East. FESTFU is the first higher educational institution in the region, which began training engineers-economists, labor engineers and economists-managers. Admission to university annually covers 30 areas that are in demand in Russia and abroad. These are professions related to navigation, ship repair, biotechnology, food. FESTFU also conducts training in joint international programs and cooperates with five industry-oriented universities in China. Agreements have been signed in the field of education, science and cooperation with leading universities in the Asia-Pacific region. 

Over the long history, the university has trained more than 90 thousand specialists, including: captains, directors of major industries, scientists in the field of fisheries and economics. Today the university has four branches (in Slavyanka, Nakhodka, Sakhalin and Tobolsk), a maritime college, a lyceum and a training sailing ship "Pallada".
