FESTFU participates in the EEF 2019 business program

The delegation of the Far Eastern State Technical Fisheries University, led by the President Oleg Shcheka, continues working on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum.

On the opening day of the Forum, the attention of the delegation was riveted to the discussion of tasks in aquaculture at the session “Development of aquaculture: first results and new goals.” Participants of the event, in particular, noted the importance of solving personnel problems for the development of this segment of the fisheries industry. The speakers paid special attention to the role of regional universities, including FESTFU.

“The position indicated today by the participants of the event confirms once again that our university is moving in the right direction, setting the right priorities in shaping the educational trajectory of training for the region and, in particular, for the fishing industry”, - said Oleg Shcheka.

Further, work at the Eastern Economic Forum continued in the format of participation in the session "Investments in the fishing industry: what happened and what to do next." The session was attended by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation - the Head of the Federal Agency for Fishery Ilya Shestakov, the Deputy Head of the Federal Agency for Fishery Petr Savchuk and other senior officials. During the discussion, there were raised questions about the practice of applying the concept of import substitution in the fisheries sector, which requres the need to use Russian components and materials in the fishing vessels construction.

The business agenda of the first day of the FESTFU delegation’s work at the forum ended with a panel discussion on the topic: “Russia and the EAEU in the Asia-Pacific Region: Key Integration Factors and Prospects for the Development of Business Cooperation”. Some companies’ representatives from several Asia-Pacific countries engaged in foreign economic operations with the Far East, including in the field of fisheries, took part in this discussion. The participants of the discussion noted the positive dynamics of the trade development between the countries and expressed hope for the expansion of possible areas of cooperation.

“The first day at the Forum demonstrated a high interest in FESTFU from the region’s industrial fisheries enterprises for joint implementation of scientific, technical and investment projects, including those with the use of state subsidizing tools. FESTFU has a number of constructive proposals for enterprises and has the necessary technical and intellectual bases for participating in the implementation of such projects,” - summarized Oleg Shcheka, President of FESTFU.

On September 5 and 6, the President of the university also planned a series of meetings to discuss projects in which the university can participate.

It should be also noted that participation in the Eastern Economic Forum this year has already become traditional for the FESTFU’s Ceremonial drummer-girls band, who successfully represent our region and the university at the Forum as part of protocol events, including with the participation of top officials of the states.
