International Institute

One of the newest but at the same time the most promising institute at FESTFU is International Institute, established on the base of International Faculty on 15th of November, 2004. After 8 years number of students increased from 90 to 400 people, two thirds of them are foreigners. February, 2005 - Center of Korean Language and Culture was established as International Institute structure. Later, December 2005 - Center of Chinese Language and Culture was established and included in the International Institute.

Due to the partner relations with foreign universities International institute succeeded in establishment vital and developing model of education "2,5*2,5". The main advantage of international educational program is studying abroad 2,5 years (Russian students study in China, Chinese students - in Russia). According to this program students have one year of language training, after this they continue their studying on chosen major.

Students live in comfortable dormitories, 2-3 people in room. There are gymnasiums, computer classes, specialized laboratories and cafeteria. Students are accompanied by curator while studying abroad. Curator assists students in adaptation and accommodation. After 2,5 years of studying abroad Russian students continue their education in Far Eastern State Technical Fisheries University. Participants of International educational program receive after graduation two diplomas: bachelor degree of FESTFU and bachelor degree of overseas university, and HSK certificate (Hanyu shuiping kaoshi), that shows student's level of Chinese language.

At present time by joint efforts International Institute realizes four educational programs of training bachelors on the following majors:

Food Technology

Economics

Water Bioresources and Aquaculture

Fishery

This educational program is very timely and called-up, that is shown by extension of geographical borders: the first Russian students were citizens of Vladivostok and Primorye. Nowadays there are a lot of students from other regions of Russia: Khabarovsky Region, Sakhalinsky Region, Siberia, Chuvashia. Foreign students are not only from Heilongjiang Province, but also from northern, central and southern region of China.

Successful experience of realizing educational programs is the solid foundation for development of other type of international activities of FESTFU: joint scientific researches, sports and cultural exchanges, probations of students and teachers.

5 Institutes and 34 departments of FESTFU are involved in this program, including specially established Department of Russian as a Foreign Language. Lectures, seminars, practical and laboratory training, practice and other methodical work with foreign students are conducted by high-skilled teachers. Institute publishes special methodical literature for foreign students. Teachers help students do researches.

For better learning of language and understanding culture, traditions and customs, educational program for foreign students are complemented by great range of various social events.

Efficiency of this program is confirmed by its results: June, 2004 there was the first graduation of Bachelors in Economics - 56 person (16 - Russian, 38 - foreign graduates), Bachelors in Food Technology - 22 person (5 - Russian, 17 - foreign graduates). All graduates are employed; they work in the sphere of economics, finance, in the administrative offices in Russia and China.
